The Shaked Lab

Marine Biogeochemistry

Our group studies metal nutrition of marine phytoplankton, tiny but abundant microorganisms who drive ocean-wide cycling of trace and major elements and in turn influence the atmosphere composition and our climate.

We study interactions among multiple elements and different organisms, while utilizing diverse instruments and developing an array of analytical and conceptual methods for data collection and interpretation.

Our scientific journeys of exploring interactions between organisms and their chemical environment and quantifying nutrient acquisition by phytoplankton take different turns, reaching across disciplines, scales and scopes. Long-term fruitful collaborations with researchers across the globe are essential component of our multidisciplinary studies, contributing to the research complexity and depth, and increasing challenges and satisfaction.

We welcome curious, courageous, talented and enthusiastic students, post-docs, and researchers wishing to join our journeys to the uncharted territories of metal-microbes interactions.
