History
GVSU's M.S. in Data Science and Analytics program was implemented in the Fall of 2017. The DSA degree was created to help prepare students for the projected high demand for data science workers. The foundational disciplines computer science and statistics, are represented in the two units, computing and statistics, which constitutes the majority of the course work that supports the master's degree.
In the Fall of 2020, the Data Science Society (DSS) was formed as a way for students with similar interests to connect with one another and gain additional knowledge about the field. It is a hub that provides opportunities for students, faculty, and local businesses to collaborate and solve real world problems in the community. In 2021, DSS hosted its first annual Data Science Contest with SAS and Service Express, Inc. as sponsors.
