Wednesday: PRACTICE THE AREAS YOU NEED TO WORK ON INDIVIDUALLY. THE FREE RESPONSE QUESTIONS HAVE BEEN RELEASED FOR YOU TO PRACTICE. TOMORROW AND FRIDAY WE WILL GO OVER THE THOREAU AND MOTH QUESTIONS AND DISCUSS WHAT AP RESOURCES ARE MOST HELPFUL!

Thursday: Explore and practice AP Classroom and AP Central resources, especially the 3 types of free response questions. Know the scoring rubrics for each and what YOU need to do to get a good score. Work especially on getting the thesis point, a 3 or 4 in evidence and commentary, and how to catch the unicorn of the sophistication point!

Monday: Watch the first AP Youtube English Language video on Identifying the Rhetorical Situation on a Pre-Twentieth Century Text. (39:41) Use the prompt handout (Google Classroom) as you work through the video lesson. Also, write out the assignment at the end of the video (Handout 3-25, Google Classroom), improving the introductory sentences on the rhetorical situation. Start from scratch and write a much more specific introduction and description of the rhetorical situation, addressing exigence, writer, audience, context, purpose and main idea.


Tuesday: Read, annotate and PMART the Abigail Adams letter to her son. I will post it in Google Classroom. It is the prompt and text of her letter.


Wednesday: Watch the second AP Youtube English Language video on Analyzing How Word Choice Reflects a Writer's Understanding of Audience (36:03) Use the handout 3-26 (Google Classroom) as you complete this lesson, writing info on Writer, audience and purpose for the three examples.

For homework, write out the assignment at the end of the video of the last example (#4) writing info on Writer, Audience and Purpose for the last example from the end of Adam's letter.

Thursday: Be ready to discuss the Adams text and the video lectures and tasks/handouts assigned in them.


Friday: Watch the third AP Youtube English Language video on Explaining the Significance /Relevance of the Writer's Use of Sophisticated Word Choice. (33:50) Use Handout 3-26 and then Handout 3-27 as you proceed through the video lesson. For homework, write commentary that fully addresses all 5 of the aspects listed as tips for the student example #4. We will share and discuss your responses when we meet via zoom conference at the scheduled times on Monday. Stay safe and have a good weekend, too!


April 20 - April 24

Monday : Watch Video Lesson # 4 presented by Dawn Knight (36:56)

Tuesday: Write the paragraph discussing the metaphors and allusion to Cicero assigned at the end of Lesson video #4. Show how the metaphors and the allusion to Cicero work with the audience, her son, and help her achieve her purpose.

Wednesday: Watch Video Lesson # 5 presented by Dawn Knight (31:42.)

Thursday: Read through the student sample of a high scoring essay from this video, and score it on the 1-4-1 rubric and write a reflection on why you scored it as you did, and provide general comments on positive aspects of this essay. What features of this essay do you want to emulate in your own essays. I'd also like you to consider what rhetorical choices the student discusses are most significant in terms of achieving Adams's purpose, and which ones less so.

Friday Read, annotate, and score the other two student samples and write a reflection for each, discussing justification for your scores, and characteristics of each of these essays.

April 27 - May 1

Monday: Watch Video Lesson # 11 presented by Emily Valvaitis (41:50) Don't stress about the references to the preceding video on argument. It wouldn't hurt to hear the discussion of what a good intro paragraph looks like, though. Also, attack the Albright prompt and passage as discussed in this video. Read and annotate the prompt and read, annotate and PMART the speech itself. I'll upload the Albright prompt and speech in Google Classroom.

Tuesday ALERT: Just read and score H, F, A and D. Read and score (1-4-1 rubric) the sample essays on the Albright prompt. I'll upload the sample essays in Google Classroom. Feel free to score all, but you are only required to do H, F, A and D.

Wednesday Read and annotate the Thatcher prompt and read, annotate and PMART the speech itself. I'll upload the Thatcher prompt and text in Google Classroom.

Thursday Same as Wednesday's, due to block scheduling.

Friday Watch Video #12 with Emily Valvaitis (41:03) It touches on both the Albright and Thatcher speeches.

May 4 - May 8

Monday Night: Read and annotate the Ghandi prompt and read, annotate and PMART the speech itself. I'll upload the Ghandi prompt and text in Google Classroom. Also, and most importantly, write an essay on this prompt, all within the 45 minute time frame.

Tuesday through Wednesday Read, annotate and score the sample essays and your own essay. Write out a reflection on your essay and be prepared to share that out on either Thursday or Friday, depending on when your class meets.
