CSU MOVING THE NEEDLE CHALLENGE

April 4 - 8, 2022
Fresno State particpated in the CSU Chancellor’s Office Academic Technology Services and the Accessible Technology Initiative (ATI) first-ever CSU Moving the Needle Challenge.
The challenge was a 5-day system-wide competition dedicated to fostering equitable and inclusive digital learning environments for all students. This challenge aimed to motivate CSU faculty and staff to improve the accessibility score of as many digital instructional materials as possible through Ally.
We had one week to fix as many accessibility issues with Canvas course files as possible. Any files improved in Cavas during that time counted for our score! 🏆 At the end of the event, Fresno State came in 3rd place with 8,795 files fixed and was awarded a monetary prize from the Chancellor's Office!
Ally is a tool that benefits all students by improving the accessibility and usability of course materials. Ally is seamlessly integrated with your Canvas courses and automatically checks the accessibility of course content, provides feedback and step-by-step instructions on how to fix specific accessibility barriers and gives students access to alternative formats of course content.
Ally provides you feedback on the accessibility of your course files with the colored dials that appear next to your file names (Red, Orange, Light Green, and Dark Green). These indicators are only visible to instructors within a course.
In support of this challenge, the Office of IDEAS hosted the very first Fresno State Fix-A-Thon Event, inviting faculty for 1-on-1 consultations on making accessibility improvements in Canvas.
Note: Improving your course accessibility will meet the guidelines of APM237
