Dr. Luz Yadira Herrera,

Luz Yadira Herrera, Ph.D., is Assistant Professor in the Multilingual Multicultural Education Program in the Kremen School of Education and Human Development.

Dr. Herrera’s teaching and research are in linguistically and culturally sustaining approaches to teaching emergent bilingual learners, engaging in translanguaging and critical pedagogy in the classroom, and bilingual education policy. She is a co-advisor for the Bilingual Educators’ Student Organization (BESO), an organization that supports teachers, advocates, and the education of emergent bilingual children. R. Joseph Rodríguez, Ph.D., is a literacy educator and researcher and currently Assistant Professor in the Multilingual Multicultural Education Program. He is the author of Enacting Adolescent Literacies across Communities: Latino/a Scribes and Their Rites (Lexington Books, 2017), Teaching Culturally Sustaining and Inclusive Young Adult Literature: Critical Perspectives and Conversations (Routledge, 2019), and several journal articles.

Dr. Rodríguez has taught English and Spanish language arts in public schools, community colleges, and universities. His areas of research include children’s and young adult literatures, language acquisition, and socially responsible biliteracies.
