In Dr. Hammons' Family Health Lab, students have participated in Abriendo Caminos (AC), a health promotion program. Students received training in working with human subjects, learned how to take anthropometric measurements, guided families through the consent process and surveys, facilitated and lead workshops, and learned about data analysis.Â
Students have also worked with Dr. Hammons on the Partnership for a Healthier America's Healthier Campus Initiative. Fresno State joined the initiative in 2017 and agreed to implement 23 guidelines in the areas of nutrition, physical activity, and programming. Recent additions to Fresno State include mile markers being added to campus walking trails, an outdoor fitness system, and a healthy eating icon added to the menu options at the resident dining hall. http://fresnostate.edu/studentaffairs/healthycampus/
Student research participation on the above projects resulted in:
Conference presentations
Mini-grant funding
Participation in a highly selective summer research program at the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign
Participation in the Jordan College of Agricultural Sciences and Technology Honors program
