High achievement, outstanding character, and scholastic leadership are attributes of the Beta Club member. The National Beta Club, a service-leadership club for students in grades 5-12, sponsors activities that promote academic excellence and citizenship such as peer tutoring, school assistance programs, and community projects.
Membership in the Beta Club is by invitation only and requires a student to have semester averages of 90 or above in all classes, including Connections. Eligibility for membership is assessed at the end of each semester. Once inducted into Beta, students must maintain a 90 semester average.
In addition to maintaining this average, Beta Club members attend monthly meetings and participate in community service functions to maintain membership. A member is expected to volunteer a minimum of 10 hours each school year. Failure to maintain the required semester average of 90 and/or complete volunteer hours may result in a probationary status of the Beta Club member for the following semester.
TRANSFER STUDENTS who are new to Rising Starr Middle School from another middle school should contact Ms. Knowles and Ms. Hubbard by email to let them know that they have been inducted as a member at their former middle school. The student will need to provide a copy of his/her official Junior Beta Club certificate and/or membership card with the student’s membership number. In the email, the student should include the name of the school where inducted, the Beta Club’s sponsor’s name, and the date of the induction ceremony.
