Trade bedrooms with a sibling.

You and a sibling straighten your bedrooms and reset them like a bed and breakfast/hotel--fold the sheets over fancy, put a piece of candy on the pillow, and add a nice note on the nightstand welcoming them to your room. What other extras might you include?

Campout in the backyard.

Convince your family to set up the tent in the backyard and have a campout. You could look at the stars, tell spooky stories with flashlights, play hide and seek, and listen to the frogs and crickets.

Make a pet rock.

Find a rock with a cool shape and add a face to it with paint, glue or yarn.

Have a movie night.

Drag out the pillows and blankets, dim the lights and pop some corn while you binge watch a movie series. Catch up on the geek classics like Star Wars, Star Trek, Princess Bride, Back to the Future, WarGames, Tron, and others.

Put together a Minute to Win It competition.

Check out this link for some fun competitions you can put together with common household items--Defy gravity, ball toss, dice/card stacking, cup stacking, etc. Use your phone’s timer or record some of the fun to share with family far away.

Hold a Fancy Feast.

One of the treats of vacationing is dining out at a new restaurant. Dress up in your best clothes, do your hair, set the table with fancy folded napkins, extend your pinky finger and play some elevator music while you enjoy dinner at the table.

Fortify your home.

Make a good old blanket fort. Decorate it with some fairy lights or fuzzy pillows and climb in and read a story. Keep it old school by using chairs, blankets, sheets and every pillow in the house. Take a nap inside your fort or read a book, and rebuild it once it (inevitably) gets knocked down.

Hold an Art Show.

Grab together some pencils, crayons, paint, or sidewalk chalk and master your own fine art creations. Name your pieces and describe your inspiration behind the art. Display them for a family gallery walk in your home or garage. Login to Google Hangouts or Facetime and share your artwork with faraway family and friends.

Make BUBBLES!

Get a large cup.

Pour 1/2 cup of dish soap into the cup.

Add 1 1/2 cups of water.

Measure 2 teaspoons of sugar and add it to the water/soap mixture. (or corn syrup)

Gently stir your mixture.

Go outside and blow bubbles!

Make your own bubble wand too!

Host a cooking show demonstration.

Record segments of yourself or a housemate preparing a recipe. Do it Tasty style. Be sure to include the recipe at the end of your demonstration.

Have a scavenger hunt.

Option1: Make up a list of items for other family members to find in your home or yard.

Option 2: Get really creative and write clues that will lead your family members to the items on your secret list.

Option 3: Find printable scavenger hunts online such as these!

Set a timer to see who can find all the items the fastest.
