This information provides additional guidance for planning virtual learning lessons and communication with parents.

Teacher Guidance for Virtual Learning Instruction: This document contains additional guidance for teaching in a virtual learning environment provided by Digital Learning Services. Check the Virtual Learning Resources page of this site for more information.

UPDATE: PreK, K, and 1st Unplugged Activities: These activities can be shared with parents as examples of non-digital activities. Teachers can also add selected activities from this list to the Virtual Learning Activity template below.

The templates below are recommended for parent and student communication when planning collaboratively and have been finalized by each respective Principal group.

Virtual Learning Is:

  • Standards-based

Lessons should be centered on the content area standards which are currently being taught.


  • Meaningful

Lessons should mirror in-class instruction as much as possible.


  • Engaging

Lessons should require students to respond/participate, so that feedback/formative assessment of student performance may occur.



Virtual Learning is NOT:

  • Busy work

An assignment that is not applicable to standards-based instruction and has no relevance to current instruction occurring in the class.


  • Sub plans

Developed at the beginning of year to be pulled if an Virtual Learning day is declared.


  • Passive

A lesson where students are not actively involved in components of the learning process.
