All About Me

Dear Families,

Welcome to Third Grade! I want you to know how pleased I am to have your child in my class this year. Third Grade is an exciting and challenging year. I will do my best to keep you informed of your child’s performance throughout the school year. I believe that communication with the parent is an extremely important one.

My teaching begins with making your child feel at home in our classroom. I have gone to great lengths to make our room a comfortable and welcoming place that will facilitate a safe, secure feeling to ensure academic success.

You will receive our classroom newsletter each week to let you know what we will be doing in class, upcoming events, as well as homework. The newsletter is enjoyed by the students, but it is also a very useful tool for parents. I will email you a copy of the weekly newsletter on Mondays. I ask that you take the time each Monday to go over the dates, assignments, and vocabulary words with your child.

I have many plans for a wonderful and exciting third grade school year.  I know that we will all work very hard to accomplish the many goals that I have set for your child this year.  Most likely, your child has learned to love reading, writing, and math. During third grade, you will see your child grow and blossom, making your child an accomplished reader and writer! You will see changes in your child's thinking, as he/she becomes familiar with abstract concepts and symbols. Hopefully, by the time third grade ends your child will have worked at his/her highest potential and will be ready to move to the next level.

If you are picking your child up from school, or if someone else is, please send in a SIGNED, DATED note with your child's name written on it.  If your child will be staying for activities such as After-School on a continuing basis, a note is needed!   If your child’s transportation to home should change, please make sure that you send in a note. We want to make sure that your child gets home safely each day.  Therefore, all transportation changes need to be in writing!

Your child will need a small, healthy DRY snack each day, packed SEPARATELY from lunch. Please do not send any type of snack that will require utensils. Your child may also send in a water bottle with only water, no sugary drinks or sodas please.  Lunches should be in a lunch box or bag with the name on the OUTSIDE. If your child is buying lunch, please send the money in an envelope or a baggy with your child's name written on it.  Lunch money needs to be sent in on each Monday.

Volunteering is encouraged and greatly appreciated in my classroom as it facilitates your child’s education and self-esteem. I would love to have you volunteer in the classroom. Even if you have limited time please consider volunteering. Children love having their families involved in their classroom.

Lastly, I would like to share a little information with you regarding my background.  I have been with the Fayette County School System since 1996. This is my twelfth year at Sara Harp Minter Elementary School. Prior to my arrival, I spent five years at Robert J. Burch Elementary in Tyrone where I taught second grade.   I also spent four years as a paraprofessional in the Fayette County School System.  Preceding my position as a paraprofessional I worked in the After School Program as an aide, teacher, and an Assistant Site Coordinator.  I received my Bachelor of Science in Education from Mercer University and completed my Masters of Science in Curriculum and Instruction through Walden University.  I am very familiar with the Fayette County School System because not only have I been employed for over nineteen years I am also a graduate from Fayette County High School. My husband and I have been married for almost twenty-five years and we live in Brooks.  We have two children, Addyson who is a 2023 graduate of  Whitewater High School and is currently a freshman at Georgia Military College and a son, Cayson who is in the eighth grade at Whitewater Middle School!  We also have a Goldendoodle, Gibson and a ShiPoo, Stetson.

I am looking forward to working hand in hand with you by guiding your child through a wonderful learning experience. Feel free to come by and speak to me any time before or after school. You may also contact me through cell or email. I will get back to you as soon as possible. Again, welcome to my class! Let the adventure begin!!
