Tasks to Complete Your Junior Year

  • Meet with your school counselor to review your transcript for graduation requirements and progress.

  • Take the PSAT in October (you may qualify for the National Merit Scholarships)

  • Take the SAT or ACT (if you have taken Algebra 2)

      • Take the test again your senior year

      • Practice the SAT using Khan Academy

  • Begin thinking about post high school plans

      • College (in-state, out of state, small, large)

      • Community College

      • Work Force

      • Trade School

      • Military Service

          • Army

          • Navy

          • Air Force

          • Marines

          • National Guard

  • Check entrance requirements for colleges of interest to you

      • Narrow down your list of colleges (choose a dream school, a safety school, and others that are in-between)

      • Attend college fairs

      • Schedule college visits during school breaks to tour campuses and talk with admissions staff (Campus visits may be limited due to COVID 19, however many colleges offer online “touring”)

  • Research the job market for your planned career

      • Find a summer job or internship in your field of interest

      • Interview a person in your field of interest. Ask questions i.e. typical day, education, licensure requirement, school attended, etc.

  • Begin researching scholarships, grants and loans
