In collaboration with the Technology and Learning Program, Faculty Development offered five QLT workshops in Fall 2022: 6 faculty completed the entire series and a final course review, while a total of 17 faculty enrolled in the QLT Canvas fully online training in Spring 2023, and 14 completed the training and course review. The QA Lead designed and created the QLT training in Canvas in collaboration with the Technology and Learning Program and two faculty facilitators.

For 2022-2023, the QA program at Chico State had three major goals:
GOAL 1: REVISE THE QLT WORKSHOPS TO INCLUDE EXAMPLES OF COURSE DESIGN IN CANVAS
Faculty at Chico State had the option to teach in Canvas in Spring 2023 for the first time, as the campus transitions from BlackBoard to Canvas. In Fall 2023, all faculty will be required to teach in Canvas, which is why one of our goals for 2022-2023 was to collect sample course design in Canvas to have examples that we can showcase to faculty as they approach their course design for Fall. The QA team was able to collect examples of course reviews that showcase course design in Canvas in both Fall 2022 and Spring 2023, shared below in this portfolio.
GOAL 2: CONCEPTUALIZE AN ASYNCHRONOUS VERSION OF THE QLT WORKSHOPS
The QA Lead, in collaboration with instructional technology consultants in TLP and two faculty facilitators, designed a new QLT training in Canvas that launched in Spring 2023 and we expect to offer QLT in the same format this year (2023-2024). The full course is available in Canvas Commons.
GOAL 3: PARTNER STRATEGICALLY WITH DEPARTMENTS OFFERING ONLINE PROGRAMS
In Spring 2023, the QA team partnered with the Department of Multicultural and Gender Studies to tailor a QLT training in Canvas specific to their needs in relation to the launch of a new online program in Fall 2023. This training is led by TLP Instructional Technology Consultant josh whittinghill. The University has also developed a series of guidelines for developing online programs at Chico State, and this document includes a sample letter of support, signed by the Academic Technology Officer, that recommends completing QLT training to departments that are developing new online programs.
Faculty Development offered a series of five workshops in Fall 2022. The QA Lead planned the details of those workshops in tandem with the Technology and Learning Program, and distributed the Core 24 standards of the QLT instrument around the whole series. The workshops are organized according to the following structure (workshops' agendas and materials are available in the links below):
Workshop 1: Introduction to QLT, Course and Learner Support
Workshop 2: Assessment of Learning Outcomes
Workshop 3: Organization of Course Materials and Resources
Workshop 4: Student Engagement
Workshop 5: Inclusion, Diversity, Equity, and Accessibility
In Fall 2022, the QA Lead also planned and designed a QLT Course in Canvas to launch in Spring of 2023. The course was designed in collaboration with the Academic Technology Officer, Information Technology Consultants, and two faculty members. Details about the QLT Canvas course are shared below and on the right side of this portfolio.
Summer 2022: the QA lead started mapping an outline for the asynchronous QLT course, with the goal of implementing and expanding elements from the 5 synchronous workshops.
Fall 2022: The QA Lead collaborated with the Academic Technology Officer to finalize the outline for the asynchronous Canvas course. While the outline originally included 7 modules, the finalized courses ended up including 8 (shown below).
January 2023: The QA completed the design of the QLT Canvas course, with input from the Academic Technology Officer, TLP technology consultants, and two faculty facilitators. The course launched in late January 20223

Module 1: Introduction to QLT (Video)
During Spring 2023, a mid-semester and a final survey were administered among the faculty piloting the QLT Canvas course. 15/17 faculty responded to the mid-semester survey, and 10/14 faculty responded to the final survey (three faculty dropped before the end of the semester).
The main takeaways from the survey are included below:
All faculty who responded to the mid-semester survey felt moderately or very confident in their ability to complete the course.
All faculty in both the mid-semester and final survey appreciated the many resources provided in the QLT course and found all topics relevant and useful (in particular the modules about assessment and backwards design).
Half the faculty who responded to the final survey felt that the QLT course required more work than they had anticipated, and some comments suggest providing higher compensation for the completion of the course, based on the time commitment required.
One main recommendation was to embed opportunities to build the slides for the final course review within each module, as opposed to building the full course review only in Module 8. Based on this recommendation, we added a requirement to start building slides that can contribute to the final course review in each module.

GOAL 1: CONTINUE IMPLEMENTATION OF QLT IN CANVAS AND RUN ASSESSMENT OF FACULTY PERFORMANCE
As Chico State prepares for a full transition from BlackBoard to Canvas (by Fall 2023), the QA Team has revised the workshops to include examples of course design that reference Canvas, as opposed to Blackboard and has launched an asynchronous QLT training in Canvas. The QA Team has administered a mid-semester survey and will also ask faculty to complete a final survey. The results of both surveys will be shared in the 2022-2023 portfolio, and will inform any modifications and changes in curriculum that will happen in Summer 2023 before we make the QLT Canvas training available in Fall 2023. The plan is to continue offering QLT in this format, and to assess faculty performances as they implement QLT in their courses. A few changes have already been implemented to the QLT Canvas course in Fall 2023 based on feedback received from faculty in Spring 2023 (see assessment section above).
GOAL 2: EMBEDDING QLT IN A NEW FACULTY DEVELOPMENT TEACHING CERTIFICATE UTILIZING CANVAS CREDENTIALS
In order to create more opportunities for faculty to complete training in quality course design, Faculty Development and the READI hub are completing a teaching certificate that will allow faculty to count completing QLT as one of the tiers in the certificate. Our plan is to incorporate Canvas Credentials as the method to certify completion of the various levels of the certificate, in addition to CSU Learn. We currently do not have access to Canvas Credentials and our hope is that the Chancellor’s Office will possibly offer additional funding to utilize Canvas Credentials, or that an agreement can be developed at the CSU level, instead of individual campuses.
GOAL 3: PARTNER STRATEGICALLY WITH DEPARTMENTS OFFERING ONLINE PROGRAMS TO OFFER TAILORED QLT TRAINING IN CANVAS
The QA Team worked in collaboration with the Multicultural and Gender Studies Department to train faculty in QLT in Spring 2023. We plan to replicate this model for other departments that will develop online programs in the future, to ensure faculty can complete QLT as a cohort and share common goals and resources in relation to the online program being developed while being supported by TLP to launch their online program.
