Frequently Asked Questions
Q1. I've gotten my acceptance to CFCC! How do I set up my CFCC Account and find my username and password?
Visit www.cfcc.edu
Click on MYCFCC
Click on First Time User.
Your CFCC username and ID# were provided to you in your CFCC acceptance email. Find this email in order to input this information when creating your account.
Q2. Help! I am new and don’t even know where to start! Where do I go to register for classes?
Please watch this video entirely before attempting to register for classes. How to Register at CFCC.
Q3. Can I still take courses at CFCC if I don’t have my license yet?
Yes! You can either carpool with a classmate, take a city bus, OR take an online course. CFCC does not provide transportation.
Q4. How do I know which classes to take?
After you log into your my.cfcc.edu account, you will need to click on “Self Service" then click on “Student Planning” then click on “View My Progress”
Once you have done that, your pathway should show at the top that you are enrolled in. As you scroll down the page, your plan will show you which classes are available for you to take. You may only take classes within your designated pathway.
Q5. How much do CFCC Classes cost?
CFCC does not charge tuition for high school students, but student activity, technology, and parking/security fees are charged to students. The fee total is based on the number of credits taken and you can view that breakdown of fees here. Parking/security fees are not charged for online classes. Students are also responsible for purchasing textbooks. The cost of college textbooks vary, and there are used and rental options for many textbooks.
Q6. Is Financial Aid available to CCP/Dual Enrolled Students?
Federal financial aid is only available to high school graduates. However, CCP students can fill out CFCC's CCP financial assistance form to receive assistance with their fees, textbooks, and supplies costs. This application can be completed every semester.
Q7. This is my first time taking classes, what are some good classes to start out with?
Keep in mind that you are now taking college classes and they are different from high school classes. Many of you will be earning weighted credit for the courses you will be taking if you are in the college transfer pathway. You should treat the class as you would an AP class. All College Transfer courses carry AP weight in your high school GPA if they are 3 credit hours or more.
Classes in the Fine Arts/Humanities and the Social/Behavioral Science categories are usually good classes to start off with. It is recommended that you take no more than two CFCC classes in your first semester.
As you view your progress page through Self Service Student Planning, you will notice the different areas you are allowed to take classes from. You do not have to start in any specific discipline.
Q8. When are the classes offered?
Many of the college transfer classes at CFCC are usually offered on Mondays, Wednesdays, or Fridays in 50 minute sessions, or on Tuesdays and Thursdays in 75 minute sessions. However, it is extremely important to look at all the meeting information when selecting a class. For example, science courses have labs that go along with the class that may occur on a non-traditional day and time or online. *Read the fine print*
If you are in a Career and Technical Education Pathway, those class dates and times will often be longer since they are more hands-on. Many of the Career and Technical Education Pathways are located at the North Campus. It is important to begin the program you have selected and follow the suggested block of classes in the suggested terms to ensure classes are available to you in a particular semester.
Q9. What campus are the classes located?
This information will be listed when you are looking at a class. Wilmington campus is located in Downtown Wilmington, and the North Campus is located off of Blue Clay Road in Castle Hayne. Online classes are located online and will be accessed through Canvas in your my.cfcc.edu portal. College Transfer classes are offered at all campuses.
Q10. How do I choose my class times?
You want to keep in mind the bell schedule at your high school and choose CFCC class times based on that. Do not plan on driving back and forth throughout the day. Try to either plan classes in the morning or in the afternoon at CFCC to leave the other part of your day available for classes at your home school. You MUST have at least one class at your high school.
Keep in mind your tardies will not be excused at neither CFCC, nor your high school. Leave yourself plenty of time to safely travel back and forth. Ex: Ten minutes is not enough time!
Q11. I play sports, what do I do?
Sports related absences are still absences at CFCC. An absence is an absence, you are only allotted a specific amount of absences per your instructor. If you know that you have to travel every Thursday for a game, don’t schedule classes on a Thursday. An online class or a morning class would be a better option. Keep in mind that your CCP classes do factor into your sports eligibility--this includes dropping or withdrawing from a class as well.
Q12. There is a message coming up that I need to have taken a prerequisite?
Some classes do require you to have taken a prerequisite, but most do not. If the message is telling you that you must have taken a DMA or a DRE class, you have already met that criteria by having a GPA that qualified you to enter the program. Contact Ms. Connor at cconnor@cfcc.edu for questions about specific course prerequisites.
Q13. Which classes count as dual credit at the high school?
Please refer to this link to see how credits will count when being reported to your high school.
*Please note: CFCC classes that are 2 SHC or less will not be awarded high school credit
Q14. When I went to register, the classes I planned are now full. Where do I go from here?
Unfortunately this can happen. Once the class fills up there is usually a waitlist for the class. If you decide to add yourself to the waitlist, remember to check your CFCC email daily--you should be doing this anyway. If a seat opens in the class, you have 24 hours to claim your seat or it goes to the next person in line.
If the waitlist is closed, there should be an option under the class that says, “View other sections.” Click this dropdown arrow to show you the other sections that are available for this class--you can filter your results at the top of the page. There are usually a couple of different pages as well so make sure you toggle to the next page to see more options.
Q15. How can I make sure that my class registration went through?
To ensure that your class registration has gone through, log into your my.cfcc.edu account, click on “Self Service" then click on the “Student Planning," then “Go to Plan & Schedule." Use the > tab to toggle to the semester you would like to look at. Once you get to the semester, your classes should be displayed and should have turned green stating “Registered, but not started” underneath the class. If the class is yellow and says, “Planned” then that means your registration has NOT gone through.
NOTE: Counselors do their best to work around your CFCC schedule, there may be a need for you to change your CFCC schedule before classes begin to meet graduation requirements at your highschool. High school master schedules are traditionally not finalized until after the current school year ends.
Q16. I registered for my class(es) and decided I don’t want to take it, how do I drop it?
You have up until the day before classes start to receive a full refund for your class. If you know that you do not want to stay in a section that you have registered for, drop the class as soon as you are sure. This allows someone else have the opportunity to take the class.
To drop the class, go in just like you did for registration and instead of the register button listed under the class, the button should now say “DROP.” Click that button to drop the class. If it not letting you drop the class, it is likely because self-registration has ended for CCP students, in which case you can email Ms. Connor from your CFCC email at cconnor@cfcc.edu, and she can drop the class for you.
Q17. When are my student fees due, and what happens if I don’t pay them?
As a CCP student you are responsible for paying your student fees. Fees are determined based on the type of classes you have signed up for and how many credits. Failure to pay your student fees will result in you being purged from the classes you have signed up for, thus allowing someone else to register in your place. Pay attention to the Academic Calendar for these important due dates and deadlines.
Q18. When/Where do I get my parking pass and student ID for CFCC?
Once you have paid your student fees, you are able to go to the Cashier’s office at either CFCC campus to obtain your parking pass and your student ID. Make sure to bring with you a copy of your license and a copy of your class schedule.
Q19. Where do I park on campus for my CFCC classes?
https://cfcc.edu/about/maps-locations/ SP indicates Student Parking
Q20. Does CFCC accept AP or CLEP credit?
Yes. Scores must be sent officially to CFCC to award credit. Please consult with Ms. Connor prior to sending scores in order to ensure that sending the scores does not restrict your future plans for classes to take within your pathway.
Q21. What are the normal Withdrawal procedures for Juniors and Seniors?
Prior to withdrawing from a class, you will need to consult with your high school counselor to discuss the need for withdrawal. You will then follow the steps here to initiate a withdrawal: https://cfcc.edu/records-registration/withdrawal/
Please note the withdrawal deadlines on the academic calendar: https://cfcc.edu/academic-resources/academic-calendar/
