Real estate

Property management

[online course in Spring 2024]

Course Description

An introductory course dealing with real estate property management and its relationships to agency, contracts, rentals, basic rent rules, rent control, tenant selection, insurance, repairs and maintenance, evictions, discrimination, landlord and tenant rights, public and private housing facilities, and government participation and regulations.

This is a college-level course requiring reading, study, and online work. Since this is a 3-unit course taught over 16 weeks, there is an expectation that you will spend 9-10 hours a week on classwork and study.

This class is fully asynchronous, which means that there is not a particular time that you have to be online. I do not lecture live through Zoom. However, the class is NOT self-paced; there are assignments that are due every week.

Required materials

1. Textbook, Property Management

(Available in CCSF bookstore)

2. Convenient access to a computer with Internet (A smart phone alone is not adequate.)

Drop Policy and the need to participate

Because this class meets a pre-license course requirement for real estate agent or broker for the State of California, students must maintain consistent participation in the class to achieve the required number of hours and pass the class. Students who wish to drop the course should do so through MyRam and not rely on the instructor to drop them.

No-Show

A “no-show” is an enrolled student for whom there is no evidence of participation. By 2/5/2024, if you have not participated in ALL of the assignments found in Module 1, you will be considered a no-show and dropped from the class. Please note that you will not be able to access these items in Canvas until the first day of class, 1/29/2024. If you want to stay enrolled in the class and you are unable to access Canvas, email the instructor at rpugh@ccsf.edu with your name, the course (RE 183, Section 931), whether you have called the Canvas helpdesk and the date that you plan to access Canvas.

FW grade

A student that enrolls and submits initial assignments but doesn’t engage consistently throughout the course will receive an “FW.” Students who do not turn in any assignments for one or more modules do not meet the requirement for consistent participation and will receive an FW. Students who have missing assignments in two or more modules or who miss an exam may be deemed to lack consistent participation and may also receive an FW.
