Course Description 

This is an introductory real estate course covering the basic laws and principles of California real estate, background, and terminology necessary for advanced study in specialized courses. It is designed to assist those preparing for the California real estate salesperson's licensing examinations.

This college-level course requires reading, study, and online work in Canvas (CCSF’s online course delivery system). Since this is a 3-unit course taught over 16 weeks, students should expect to spend about 9-10 hours per week on this course to be successful. This class covers a large amount of material. Therefore, if you want to be successful in this class, you should plan your schedule accordingly to give yourself a chance for success. 

My online classes are all fully asynchronous, which means that there is not a particular time that you have to be online. I do not lecture live through Zoom, although I provide videos to review key concepts. The classes are NOT self-paced; there are assignments that are due every week.

Drop Policy and the need to participate

Because this class meets the pre-license course requirement for real estate agent or broker for the State of California, students must maintain consistent participation in the class to achieve the required number of hours and pass the class. Students who wish to drop the course should do so through MyRam and not rely on the instructor to drop them.

No-Show

A “no-show” is an enrolled student for whom there is no evidence of participation. By Sunday, September 7, 2025, if you have not participated in ALL of the first week activities found in Module 1, you will be considered a no-show and dropped from the class. Please plan to access the class in Canvas on the first day of class, Tuesday, September 2, 2025 to get a feel for the pace and demands of the class. If you want to stay enrolled in the class and you are unable to access Canvas, email the instructor at rpugh@ccsf.edu with your name, the course (RE 181, Section 931), whether you have called the Canvas helpdesk and the date that you plan to access Canvas.

FW grade

A student that enrolls and submits initial assignments but doesn’t engage further throughout the course will receive an “FW.” Students who do not turn in any assignments for one or more modules do not meet the requirement for consistent participation and will receive an FW.  Students who fail to take the midterm or final exam will receive an FW. Students who have missing assignments in two or more modules may be deemed to lack consistent participation and may also receive an FW.
