HLTH 221: Health & Social Justice
HLTH 221: Health & Social Justice
This course explores the roles of oppression and social and economic injustice as root causes of health disparities according to social class, race, and gender/sex/sexuality. We will challenge ourselves to move away from the traditional way of thinking about health as an individual problem, driven by genetics, behavior and choices. We will focus on structural and community level approaches to addressing health disparities, to create lasting social change and improve the health status of marginalized communities.
