ESL 188 is the highest ESL reading/writing/grammar course.
ESL 188 covers reading, writing, and grammar skills at the college level. It meets the prerequisite for English 1A. It also meets requirements for the Certificate of Academic Accomplishment in Advanced Academic English as a Second Language.
It is an intensive 6-unit course (average college classes are 3 units)
After you register, you'll receive a welcome message with information about the course with more detailed information..
Note: because of its online design, this class meets 3 hours per week; other work is done independently. In-person sections of ESL 188 meet 6 hours per week.
This section of ESL 188 will have one required 3-hour Zoom meeting per week on Saturday mornings from 9:00-12:00pm ; the other work is all done online.
I am available to help students 1-1 in Zoom 5 days a week, Tuesday through Saturday, at their convenience
You don't need to be a computer expert! We use the Canvas system for our class (see below for more information about Canvas), which isn't difficult to learn. But you need the ability to:
use e-mail
take photos with your phone or camera (or use a scanner)
do basic word processing (type/save/open documents)
watch videos online (all videos have captions)
attend required Zoom meetings
First, are you already a City College student? If not, you need to apply for admission first. See the apply for admissions page. After you are accepted, CCSF will send you information about the ESL Placement tool. If your level is 188, you can simply register for the class.
During the semester, if you're in my online class, please use the Canvas inbox to contact me.
If you're a future student, you're welcome to e-mail me at: nicole.trahan@mail.ccsf.edu
I answer messages in 24 hours or less Tuesday 9am- Saturday 5pm.
