Welcome to Fall 2023!
Meet your instructor
I am excited to embark on this new adventure with you. You chose your destination well: learning a foreign language is not only fun but nowadays it is critical as we live in a global environment. It is also useful and rewarding since it can provide you with opportunities to work or study abroad and in so doing, open many doors along the way.
“One language sets you in a corridor for life. Two languages open every door along the way.”
– Frank Smith, psycholinguist
My name is Isabelle Motamedi. While my last name is Persian, I was born in France and grew up near Annecy, in the Alps. I have two children who are bilingual. I love reading, swimming, hiking with my family, going on bike rides in the streets of Paris or Amsterdam, and cooking.

Dropping the Class
If you decide to discontinue this course, it is your responsibility to officially drop it to avoid getting no refund (after 10% of course length), a W symbol (after 20%), or a grade (after 60%). Also, for several consecutive, unexplained absences, the instructor may drop a student.
Pass‐No Pass (P/NP)
You may take this class P/NP. You must decide before the deadline, and add the option online with web4
or file the P/NP form with Admissions and Records. With a grade of C or better, you will get P.
You must file for the P/NP option by Feb.18, 2021. Once you decide to go for P/NP, you cannot change back to a letter grade. If you are taking this course as part of a certificate program, you can probably still take the class P/NP. Check with a counselor to be sure.
Plagiarism and use of electronic resources
As in all language courses in the French Studies Department, we expect that all work you turn in for grading (papers, exams, etc) is your OWN WORK and has not been read by someone (a student) or translated by any apps.
