Do you need a 4 hour science credit with a lab for transfer to another college, university, or program?

This is a hybrid course: Lecture will be online and lab will be in person. The course will run for 7 weeks, from mid-June to late-July. In person labs will meet twice a week on Mondays and Wednesdays from 10am - 3pm.

In this course we will primarily explore the fascinating world of insects, covering topics such as insect diversity, evolution, anatomy and physiology, taxonomy, cultural importance and impact on humans and the Earth's ecosystems.

The lecture portion of the class will be taught asynchronously online with recorded lectures, readings, discussion boards, worksheets, and assessments. Labs will be in person and focus on the collection and identification of Bay Area insects.

Lauren Esposito (she/her/they/them), the Assistant Curator, and Schlinger Chair of Arachnology at the California Academy of Sciences, has offered to conduct a tour of the Academy's insect specimen collection (trust, it will blow your mind!) and talk with the class about her research with scorpions! Date of this field trip TBD.
