Welcome to Personal and Community Health!

Thank you for your interest in taking Health 53: Personal and Community Health. I have taught this course the past several semesters at CCSF Ocean Campus (both in-person and online). As your professor, I look forward in sharing my professional work experiences as a Public Health Practitioner for the City of Berkeley Public Health Department and as a Research Assistant for the University of California at San Francisco in the area of HIV. My personal goal is to provide you with both a conceptual and practical understanding of the factors and systems that contribute to personal and community well-being, whether your goals are to continue with higher education or for your own personal interests. You will apply and analyze current psycho social health factors impacting both people and community.

This online course is designed to help you learn factors that impact "personal and community health" by reading the assigned textbook materials and accessing online resources. In addition, Learner's will be able to share and learn from each other's personal and community health experiences through facilitated online discussions and group activities. In order to be successful in this course, you will need to spend approximately 6-8 plus hours of reading, completing assignments and interacting with other learners per week for 16-weeks OR 25-30 hours/week for the 6-week shorter and faster paced version of this course. If this is your first time taking an online course, I highly recommend you view the Online Learner video below.

Please do not hesitate to contact me with questions about this course or future courses that I teach.
