General work experience course designed for students who may not yet have selected a specific occupational goal but who are presently employed off campus. Through supervised employment, students can increase their workplace success by undertaking new or expanded responsibilities at their jobs and acquiring improved work habits and career-related skills. One unit of credit is earned for each 60 hours of unpaid work or 75 hours of paid work.
Approval of Business Department Work Experience Coordinator required
After successful completion of this course, a student will be able to:
This class requires attendance at a mandatory on-campus orientation at the Ocean Campus.
All the other required coursework will be completed online, with the required documentation submitted to the Work Experience Coordinator by the posted due dates.
Students will use the Canvas Learning Management System (LMS) for reading instructor's postings, viewing assignment instructions, viewing classmates' discussion postings, sharing resources, and viewing grades.
Students do not need to purchase any materials for this class.
You will need to use word processing software to write the final essay for the Work Experience class. Here is one option:
Microsoft Word is also available for your use in the Business Computing Lab (Ocean Campus, Cloud 111). You will be asked to sign up for a free, noncredit lab class (COMP 9000) the first time you use the lab. Here are the lab hours:
Last day to change number of WKEX units: Thursday, February 14, 20919
If you would like to increase or decrease the number of WKEX units you earn, you must do so online in Web4 by 11:55 p.m. on the due date: http://www.ccsf.edu/web4.
If you decide to discontinue this course, it is your responsibility to officially drop it to avoid getting no refund, a W on your record, or a No Pass (NP) grade. In addition, if you do not submit the required forms by their posted due dates without prior notice and a reason for your being late, you can be dropped from the class.
The Pass/No Pass (P/NP) grading option is the only grading option available for this class.
I will post announcements on the “Announcements” page in Canvas throughout the semester. Canvas then notifies students according to their preferred Notification Preferences as soon as I create an announcement. A “Q&A About This Course” discussion forum is also available in Canvas for you to ask for assistance from me or your classmates.
Students who do not attend one of the mandatory on-campus orientations will be dropped from the class. Please contact me if you have a schedule conflict with the orientation dates.
To earn a grade of PASS in the class, a student must do the following:
Students must work a minimum of 75 paid hours or 60 unpaid hours per unit of credit earned.
1 unit = 60 unpaid or 75 paid hours 4 units = 240 unpaid or 300 paid hours
2 units = 120 unpaid or 150 paid hours 5 units = 300 unpaid or 375 paid hours
3 units = 180 unpaid or 225 paid hours 6 units = 360 unpaid or 450 paid hours
All forms and the final essay are due at 11:59 p.m. PST on their posted due dates. If you must be late with a form or the essay, please e-mail me in Canvas prior to the due date with an explanation for the delay and the date by which you will submit the document.
Students who register in CCSF classes are required to abide by the CCSF Student Code of Conduct. Violation of the code is basis for referral to the Student Conduct Coordinator or dismissal from class or from the College. See the Office of Student Affairs and Wellness.
Collaborating on or copying text for your final essay is considered an act of academic dishonesty (which is cheating). You are expected to complete this writing assignment by yourself. The purpose of the final essay is to give you the opportunity to reflect on what you have learned from your experiences.
If a student submits an essay that is copied from another student's work, both students will receive an NP in the class. Similarly, if a student submits an essay that contains text taken from an outside source without properly citing the source (such as an article on the Internet), he or she will receive an NP in the class.
