CAHS100 Introduction to Hospitality

Course Description

A comprehensive examination of the hospitality industry, including hotels, restaurants, clubs, airlines, cruise ships and other sectors of the travel and tourism industry. Emphasis on organizational structures, departments, job classifications, and career paths within each sector. Lecture and discussions will be supplemented by assignments, readings and presentations by guest speakers from the industry.

Course Delivery

This class Is conducted completely online, with self paced modules that are completed weekly.  We explore all aspects of the hospitality Industry, In a city which Is know for Its hospitality.  A final project entails exploring the city and reviewing mulitple hotels and restaurants.

Important Dates

Classes begin on August 16, 2023.  There will be work each week online to prep for classYou must complete the first week assignments to avoid being dropped from the course.  If you do not contribute for 2 weeks, you may be in jeopardy of being dropped from the class as well.

August 30, 2022: Last day to drop FULL-TERM credit course work in order to qualify for 100% full refund of CA resident enrollment fees, international and nonresident student tuition and capital outlay fees.

September 1: Last day to add Full-Term credit courses in-person and online using myRAM Portal

Last day to drop credit classes without a 'W', no notation will appear on the student's permanent record

November 2: Last day to request P/NP option for grading (non-CAHS students only).

December 22:  Due date of final project.  There Is no final exam In this course.

Textbook:  Introduction to Hospitality Management by Dennis Reynolds, Imran Rahman, & Clayton Barrows.

There may be copies available in the Library; you are not required to purchase the textbook, but you are required to read assigned chapters prior to completing the assignments.
