The class is already full! How do I get on the wait list?

Prior to the start of the semester, waitlists are maintained online through the course registration system. Once the semester starts, you may submit an add request (you should also email your instructor.) If space is available, you may be able to add the course during the first three weeks—the add period—of the semester.

I took the prerequisite coursework at another college. How do I become eligible to enroll in classes at CCSF that have a chemistry prerequisite?

Email the department chairperson with the following information: your name, CCSF ID #, the name of the class in which you wish to enroll, and a scan/snapshot of the transcript showing completion of the prerequisite. Learn more about Chem 101A prerequisites.

Can I get the math and/or chemistry prerequisites for a chemistry course waived?

No. Satisfactory completion of the prerequisites is required! Please review the prerequisite requirements. If you have further questions regarding prerequisites, contact the department chairperson with the following information: your name, CCSF ID #, the name of the class in which you wish to enroll and a clear statement of the prerequisite question. I already took the lab as a separate course at another college. Do I have to do the lab in my class at CCSF?

Yes. The labs are not offered separately at CCSF but instead are integrated with the course. Since the lab is part of the course and your course grade, you are required to take it.

Is there tutoring available for chemistry?

Yes. For supplemental help in chemistry, students can receive free tutoring at the Learning Assistance Department. For course specific supplemental instruction, students should contact their instructor in order to learn of any study group opportunities.

Is Chemistry 101A the right chemistry class to take for nursing school?

In general, Introduction to Medical Chemistry (CHEM 32) is the most appropriate course to satisfy the chemistry prerequisites for admission to many nursing programs. However, be sure to check the specific requirements of the nursing school you plan to attend as requirements do vary.

Where can I get advice about taking a particular chemistry class?

Always feel free to contact any of the chemistry faculty at City College of San Francisco. It is very important to know that you are registering for the correct course with regard to your major and to clearly understand the course prerequisites and content before registering.

Is chemistry as challenging as I have heard?

Chemistry requires a significant amount of study and practice. Satisfactory completion of the course prerequisites is very important. Plan to reserve at least twenty to thirty hours for working through the course material, studying and completing assigned work.
