COURSE DESCRIPTION
In ESL NC Level 6 Online you will participate in online discussions on career, social, and academic topics. You will read authentic narrative and informational texts. You will develop clearly organized paragraphs.
As an online class, there will be a new module every week, posted Sunday morning, with new assignments and activities to complete. Prof. Daya will be giving you individual feedback on Canvas.
There is no textbook for this course! All materials will be on Canvas.
There are optional Livestream sessions once a month on Zoom. Professor Daya will give you all this information in the class!
STUDENT LEARNING OUTCOMES
Upon completion of this course, you will be able to:
Interpret main ideas and supporting details in low-intermediate English oral discourse on familiar and some unfamiliar topics.
Interpret main ideas and supporting details in low-intermediate English written discourse on familiar and some unfamiliar topics.
Produce English at a low-intermediate level to communicate in discussions on familiar and some unfamiliar contexts.
Produce English at a low-intermediate level to write short, organized paragraphs with relevant ideas and details.
OUR COURSE MATERIALS
We will be doing a variety of activities on Canvas to practice listening, speaking, reading, and writing.
There is no textbook! There will be videos, podcasts, articles, websites, and more on Canvas.
Professor Daya will be posting a Guided Tour of the new week every Sunday morning, along with lessons throughout each week's module.
You will be submitting your work to Professor Daya and also communicating with your classmates.
It's all new and it will be fun! I am here to support your learning.
REQUIRED HARDWARE
Computer/laptop or smartphone
Ideally, you should have access to a laptop or desktop computer to complete this course.
However, I have taken care to design a course that can also be completed from a smartphone.
Your feedback will help me improve our learning environment to support more students.
REQUIRED SOFTWARE
You will use Canvas, which is accessed through your MyCCSF account for this course. You won't need to create and account or download anything unless you are using a phone as your course access method.
Canvas Student App (recommended for all, required for those who use a phone)
I strongly recommend that you download the free Canvas Student App before course starts you can stay more connected with our course. When prompted to find your school, enter CCSF and then select our course from your Dashboard.
Other Mobile Apps (recommended for all, required for those who use a phone)
Throughout the course I will introduce other tools to support your learning, such as Kahoot, Flipgrid, Padlet, JamBoard, Google Slides, and Adobe Spark Pages. You will be able to access these apps directly from our Canvas course. I'll tell you more before we use them and I will provide plenty of support so that you will be successful using these tools.
IMPORTANT DATES
Monday January 30, 2023: Our first ESL NC Level 6 Class opens on Canvas!
Friday to Monday February 17 to 20: President's Day Weekend
Tuesday March 7: Teacher's Flex Day: No Classes for Students
Saturday March 25 to Monday April 3: Spring Break
