  • In our ESL Reading class we will practice understanding and analyzing authentic texts in English.

  • As a fully remote class, we will meet two afternoons every week for Livestream sessions.

COURSE GOALS

In this course you will practice to master:

  • Low intermediate reading skill development.

  • Comprehension and analysis of a variety of adapted and authentic written English materials.

  • Expansion of word analysis skills.

Upon completion of this course, you will be able to:

  • Apply low intermediate reading strategies to determine central ideas and supporting details of a variety of informational and narrative digital and print texts.

  • Use low intermediate vocabulary analysis skills to determine meaning of words in familiar and unfamiliar contexts.

REQUIRED HARDWARE


Computer/laptop or smartphone

Ideally, you should have access to a laptop or desktop computer to complete this course.

However, I have taken care to design a course that can also be completed from a smartphone.

Your feedback will help me improve our learning environment to support more students.


REQUIRED SOFTWARE

You will use Canvas, which is accessed through your MyCCSF account for this course. You won't need to create and account or download anything unless you are using a phone as your course access method.

Canvas Student App (recommended for all, required for those who use a phone)

I strongly recommend that you download the free Canvas Student App before course starts you can stay more connected with our course. When prompted to find your school, enter CCSF and then select our course from your Dashboard.

Other Mobile Apps (recommended for all, required for those who use a phone)

Throughout the course I will introduce other tools to support your learning, such as Kahoot, Flipgrid, Padlet, JamBoard, Google Slides, and Adobe Spark Pages. You will be able to access these apps directly from our Canvas course. I'll tell you more before we use them and I will provide plenty of support so that you will be successful using these tools.

Monday October 11: Indigenous People's Day Holiday

Thursday November 11: Veteran's Day

Thursday to Sunday November 25 to 28: Thanksgiving Break

Tuesday December 14th: Last Day of our class.
