FAQ: How do I join the class? - Read this page top to bottom!

- Before class begins:
If MyRAM Portal allows you to enroll in this course, it means there are open seats available for you.
If MyRAM Portal only allows you to join the waitlist, it means there are no open seats currently available and you should join the waitlist. Read this waitlist information page. Check your email twice every day because if your turn comes up you will only have 24 hours to complete enrollment. If you are on the waitlist and receive a notification that it is your turn to enroll and run into problems trying to enroll you need to contact the Registration office AND me immediately. If MyRAM Portal does not allow you to join the waitlist, it means the waitlist is full. Keep checking back periodically until a space opens up on the waitlist. See note above.
The course capacity is set at 35 students and the waitlist is limited to 10 students. These numbers will not change.
- Once class begins:
The system automatically drops the waitlist the day before class starts. This is an automatic process that happens to all classes. It has nothing to do with individual instructors. Once class starts, waitlists don't exist anymore and whatever your place was on the waitlist is no longer relevant.
You will need to submit an Add Request on MyRAM Portal if you want to join the class. This is true regardless of your previous waitlist status. (More info about Add Requests in general can be found on this registration information page - scroll down to "How to Submit a Class Add Request".)
I will approve Add Requests if and when spots open up in the class, but I will not approve Add Requests above course capacity and I will not approve Add Requests after June 11.
Check your email twice every day for a notification that I have approved your Add Request. If you do not complete enrollment within 24 hours of being notified I will give the seat to the next student waiting for an Add Request approval.
Please note:
I do not control enrollment. Do not ask me to complete the enrollment process for you.
I do not control the waitlist system. Do not ask me to change your position on the waitlist.
I do not play favorites. Do not ask me to approve your add request ahead of other students.
I will check the enrollment list once a day to see if someone has voluntarily dropped the course and left a seat open. Please do not email me about open seats or changing enrollment numbers. Just be patient. And if you don't get into the class this summer, I encourage you to set a calendar reminder to register as early as you can for Fall 2024 classes.
Students who join the class on or after June 6 will get an automatic extension for the first week to help you catch up. Afterwards, all the normal deadlines apply. Note: You should assume the deadlines shown to you on Canvas are correct; if you think a deadline is not correct and needs to be adjusted (e.g. for an extension) then you should let me know immediately via Canvas Inbox.
