Step into the spotlight with BCST 115 Announcing and Performance, where your voice becomes your power! Dive into a world of diverse media experiences, from television news to commercial voice-overs. You will develop skills like broadcast copy preparation, vocal articulation and green-screen performance through six comprehensive skills assignments.
Raise your game with our core assignments, including Moth Radio storytelling and live news recording, each designed to refine your on-air charisma. Personalize your journey with elective assignments, ranging from movie reviews using a teleprompter to sports announcing, animation character and voice-over acting, all culminating in a live-streamed group project – the Performance Showcase. This Hybrid course meets in-person four times during the semester, and the rest of the course is given online.
Here's our most recent BCST 115 Performance Showcase that was live-streamed on Twitch. Students selected some of their best work, so this will give you a good idea of what you can do in this course.

To add the class after the first day of instruction, contact the instructor by email. Include the name of the class you would like to add, your name and student ID number. If you were on the wait-list prior to the first day of instruction, please state that too. When a place becomes available in the class, the instructor will reply with an add code that will give you permission to register. It can take up to 24 hours to gain access to your online course when you have added the class. Registered students who have not accessed the course and done significant work within the first two weeks of instruction must be dropped.
If the course is full, you can sign up to the waitlist. Prior to the first day of instruction, if a spot comes open you will be automatically added to the class based on the order of priority. After courses begin, I will be notified that a spot has come open and will send you an 'invitation' to register for the course at your CCSF gmail account that ends in @mail.ccsf.edu. Invites expire within 48 hours; after, the spot is offered to the next student on the list.
Please note that I may decide not to add you after the first two weeks of instruction because you have missed too much of the course to catch up.
This website is for information purposes only. BCST 115 is an in-person course that meets at the times listed above. Homework for the course is done through Canvas, CCSF's learning management software as an asynchronous online course. The course will not be available in Canvas until the first day of instruction.
