Land Acknowledgment &  Solidarity Resources

With gratitude, humility and commitment to solidarity with indigenous peoples fighting for their right to land and sovereignty, I acknowledge that we work and study on the stolen, ancestral lands of the Ramaytush Ohlone.

You Belong Here! Please reach out to me if you find yourself in a situation that hinders your learning or ability to engage in class. I am here to lend an ear and to help you to find support and resources. You can do this! I hope you will join me in building open and respectful relationships with one another through our communication and to creating a safe, brave and healthy community for learning. Learning includes discomfort, and I value the process of moving through that discomfort with validation and understanding.

I fully support the rights of all students to experience an environment free of bias and racism, and an environment that addresses bias when it arises so that we can all be in the process of changing our insitution for the better. Please talk to me if there is something that comes up in class or out of class that I can support you with addressing.

I fully support the rights of undocumented students to an education and to live free from the fear of deportation. I am committed to CCSF as a sanctuary campus and will actively resist any attempts to ascertain the immigration status of members of our classroom community. If you have any concerns, please feel free to discuss them with me, and I will respect your wishes concerning confidentiality. Likewise, if you face challenges with sufficient food or housing, or if there are other threats to your security and well-being, this is likely to affect your learning. I want you to be successful and to help you find resources: please talk to me and I will try to help you find the support you need.

 Accommodations & Diverse Learning Styles:

Your experience in this class is important to me. If you have specific learning needs or you have already established accommodations with DSPS, please communicate with me so we can discuss how I can support you to fully access the materials and succeed in this course. You will have an opportunity to communicate this during the first weeks of the course. If you have a temporary health condition or permanent disability that requires accommodations (conditions include but are not limited to: mental health, attention-related, learning, vision, hearing, physical or health impacts), you are welcome to contact Disabled Students' Programs and Services. You can request an evaluation, find accessibility resources. DSPS coordinates reasonable accommodations for students with disabilities and/or temporary health conditions.

Students seeking disability-related accommodations are encouraged to also register with Disabled Students Programs and Services located in Room 323 of the Rosenberg Library (415) 452-5481. Please see the DSPS website for more information and remote availability.

Course Expectations:

*During your  work, I encourage you to silence your cell phones and work in a focused manner. There is a plethora of research demonstrating that multitasking reduces focus, impinges memory and lowers retention of material. It also raises our blood pressure! Even though we may feel like we have accomplished more after we multitask, studies show that we do each task in a lower quality manner. Of course, it’s your choice!
