Traces the parallel histories of Latin American and Latino workers and discusses the ways in which politics, economics and social movements shape their experiences. This course bridges Labor Studies and Latin American/Latino/a Studies by comparing the histories and realities of Latin American workers in the US and Latin America. The course traces the parallel of Latin American and Latino workers and discusses the ways in which politics, economics and social movements shape their experiences. Neo-colonialism and underdevelopment, emigration and immigration, Latino workers in the U.S. Unionization, the fight for immigrants’ rights and solidarity throughout the hemisphere.
Three books are required for this course. These are listed by the order in which they are used this semester. You should purchase them all immediately, but if you wonder which you should purchase first start with the Chávez book.
