SPAN 1A is a beginner's course in grammar, composition and reading. Practice in speaking and understanding Spanish. This is an Hybrid course that offers students the convenience of learning a language from home, but also an opportunity to have oral conversational practice with classmates in class. Attendance to our once a week meetings is mandatory.

Face to face class will be on Mondays 6:10-7:30 p.m. at Mission Campus in Room 274. Attendance to these meetings is required. However, if the student is experiencing an emergency or special circumstance, it may be excused. Contact your instructor via Canvas: Inbox.
This is an hybrid course, which means students and instructor will meet face to face once a week to cover the oral communication component. In this level we are looking forward to basic communication skills. For example, how to introduce yourself to others, introducing someone to a group, distinguishing different levels of formality in Spanish, describing yourself and others, describing your family, talking about the weather, activities you usually do, your likes and dislikes, among other goals.

Students not submitting assignments at all on our MindTap and Canvas website during the first two weeks, will be dropped from the course. You could be dropped if:
You stop submitting assignments on MindTap and Canvas after the second week without letting the instructor know about special circumstances.
You have more than 4 unexcused absences.
This course covers 3 chapters from our textbook. After completion of a chapter, they will take a partial exam. There is a final exam that is comprehensive (Ch.1-3). Also, quizzes will be part of the learning process. Those are meant to enforce weaknesses in grammar, vocabulary, or writing. All quizzes will be taken online, exams in class.
Total of partial exams: 3.
Quizzes/ "Pruebitas" : Approximately 7 (Lowest score will be dropped).
