Welcome to MABS 101. In this course we will use Excel, an industry leading spreadsheet program. Learning how to use Excel is an investment in both your academic and professional career. Upon completion of this course, you will become proficient in this flexible and powerful software which is widely used in multiple industries. In this course you will create a variety of small and large scale solutions for businesses. This program excels in calculations and the ability to highlight select information with charts.

Course Description
This course comprises creating, and modifying spreadsheets using Excel software. Includes creating charts, working with advanced functions, database features, and the use of macros.
Upon successful completion of this course, a student will be able to:
Plan and design an Excel worksheet.
Create formulas with multiple operators and range names in Excel.
Choose appropriate functions to solve common business problems using Excel.
Plan, design, edit and enhance an Excel chart.
Design and create Excel macros to automate tasks.
Students will access and complete lessons using Canvas (https://ccsf.instructure.com/courses/49385).
Assignments and tests for this course will be completed within the Cengage > MindTap courseware (detailed information in the TEXTBOOK AND MATERIALS section below).
Assignments should be turned in by their assigned dates. Late assignments will be deducted at 7% of their original assigned scores. All assignments must be submitted within seven days of their due dates (with the exception of the last day of the course).
A graded Discussion Forum for each module is available to connect with your fellow students.

Please read and follow written directions carefully. Assignments must be completed each week. This is NOT a self-paced class. Proper time management is essential to completing the assignments. Please schedule regular sessions each week to complete your homework assignments. Most students need approximately 9 hours per week to complete all the assignments.
Software Requirements for this Course: Excel 2019 or Excel 365 desktop versions. The courseware exercises may be performed on Windows or MacIntosh operating systems.
Students need will need to operate effectively in the Windows or MacIntosh platforms.
Mac users may need to become familiar with Windows shortcut commands (ex: Ctrl rather than Cmd key for shortcuts. Skills often used include File Management (Open, Save Files) and File Explorer. The Module Welcome to Your Course > File Management provides a review of Windows basics.
Internet Access is required to access Canvas and Cengage-MindTap.

Computer Labs at CCSF – All Labs are closed Until Further Notice
Students enrolled in Business Department courses may use the Business Department Computer Lab located in Cloud 111. Lab hours are posted outside room 111. The lab is a free, non-credit course (COMP 9000) that you must register in to use the lab. Registration forms are available in the lab. Evaluation and Grading
Your final grade will be based on the completion of lessons, activities, exercises, quizzes and exams. Each task has a visible score assigned. The student’s grade is the result of the total points accumulated at the end of the course. No late assignments are accepted.
Grading scale:
A = 90% - 100%
B = 80 - 89%
C = 70 - 79%
D = 60 - 69%
F = 0 - <60%
Pass (P) / No Pass (NP) Option
This class may be taken on a Pass/No Pass or on a letter grade basis. In order to take the class on a Pass/No Pass basis, you must file a petition with the Office of Admissions and Records no later than the deadline date established in the Calendar of Instruction. (See CCSF Course Schedule for this date.) Students may also select "Pass/No Pass" grading option on-line through webSTARS at http://www.ccsf.edu. You must receive a C grade or higher in order to receive a P (Pass); lower grades will receive an NP (No Pass). P/NP grading is not counted in the student’s grade point average.
NOTE: Although City College does not limit the number of units a student may take on a Pass/No Pass basis, students planning to transfer should inquire of the transfer institution its policy on credit/no-credit course work. Some institutions may require a letter grade in course work used to satisfy specific requirements for admission and/or major preparation.
