Positive Behavioral Intervention & Support (PBIS) refers to a multi-tiered, data-driven system for promoting students' positive behaviors at school. At the first level of support, Tier 1, all students are provided with explicit instruction on behavioral expectations in various locations throughout the school. The second level of support, Tier 2, is targets students who need guidance beyond the school-wide instruction on behavioral expectations. This group of students benefit from small group instruction. There are a few students for who require individually tailored behavior interventions. These would be considered Tier 3 supports. At this highest level of intervention, students require individualized behavior plans which may include wraparound support (i.e., education and support in the various settings of a child's life, such as school, home, and the community--to ensure consistency).
