Unit Style Choices

Below are three possible tracks for teaching this unit to your students. If you want to use this unit as an extra credit project or a quick assignment for a sub plan, we recommend the Individual Track. If you want to teach the unit in the classroom and assess students on their understanding of it, but don't have a ton of time, we recommend the 3 Day Track. Lastly, if you have time for a full unit, and want to give students a variety of opportunities to internalize the content, we recommend the 5 Day Track.

Lastly, we encourage you to adapt any of these tracks to fit your specific needs and time constraints.

Individual Track

• Ask students to peruse the website.

• Assign students (1) of the following assignments to complete on their own time:

  • Assignment #1: It Girl Webquest

  • Assignment #2: Media Discovery

  • Unit Project

• UNIT COMPLETED.

3 Day Track

• Day 1

  • In class - Teach the lecture slides, explore the website as a class.

  • Homework - Assignment #1: It Girl Webquest, explore the website individually.

• Day 2

  • In Class - Have students complete Assignment #2: Media Discovery, individually or with partners.

  • Homework - Assign preparatory requirements for the Class Discussion on Day 3.

• Day 3

  • In Class - Class Discussion.

  • UNIT COMPLETED.

5 Day Track

• Day 1

  • In class - Teach the lecture slides, explore the website as a class.

  • Homework - Assignment #1: It Girl Webquest, explore the website individually.

• Day 2

  • In Class - Have students complete Assignment #2: Media Discovery, individually or with partners.

  • Homework - Assign preparatory requirements for the Class Discussion on Day 3.

• Day 3

  • In Class - Class Discussion.

  • Homework - Assign the Unit Project, individually or in groups, to be presented on Day 5.

• Day 4

  • In Class - Students should work on their Unit Project in class.

  • Homework - Continue work on Unit Project

• Day 5

  • In Class - Students will present their Unit Projects.

  • UNIT COMPLETED.
