Maharaja's College, Ernakulam
Celebrating 50 Years of Biordered Sets.
organized by
The Post Graduate and Research Department of Mathematics,
Maharaja's College, Ernakulam (Government Autonomous)
Ernakulam 682 011, Kerala, India
in association with
Institute of Mathematics Research and Training (IMRT)
Major themes in the conference: I Semigroups I Groupoids I Categories I Rings I Semirings I Algebras and Applications.
This international conference is aimed at paying tribute to the creator of the concept, K. S. S. Nambooripad, and also to take stock of the major developments that followed in various centres in the world.
About the College: Maharaja’s College, Ernakulam, stands as a signature presence in higher education, boasting a rich legacy of academic excellence. Founded in 1845 and elevated to a college in 1875, the institution proudly celebrates its Sesquicentennial this year.
About the Department of Mathematics: Established in 1875, the Department launched its UG and PG Mathematics programs in 1931 and 1951, respectively. The Department was elevated as a Research Centre under Mahatma Gandhi University, Kottayam in the year 2019.
About the Conference: The concept of “biordered set” was introduced by K. S. S. Nambooripad in his paper on structure of regular semigroups which appeared in Semigroup Forum in 1975. This concept and the structure theory for regular semigroups based on the biorder structure greatly influenced the development of semigroup theory over the past half century. Several past collaborators and admirers of Nambooripad are expected to join the conference. The conference will provide an opportunity for new researchers to familiarise themselves with developments in this area and to interact directly with several experts in the field.
