Satellite products

The EEI can be estimated from space measurements by 2 approaches :

  • from direct measurements of the global budget of incoming and outgoing radiation at the top of atmosphere with the Clouds and the Earth’s Radiant Energy System (CERES) instruments (e.g. Kato et al., 2018)

  • from the geodetic approach that consists in estimating the OHC change from the measurement of the thermal expansion of the ocean based on differences between the total sea-level derived from satellite altimetry measurements and the ocean mass contribution to sea level derived from gravimetry (Marti et al., 2021 (submitted); introduced in Meyssignac et al., 2019)
