Children in the 60s

What was life like for children in the 1960s.

In the 1960s, most children had a very hard life. Boys had to leave school at 14 but so did girls, many boys still had to go to the mines, and could get harmed during the process of their shift. Girls sort of had a normal life except most did not know very much due to lack of education compared with today. Most rich people got their kids extra time in school until 1970 where people were most normal people allowed to leave school at 16.

What sort of things did the young people do?

Young people were kinda like us now, they had things like: climbing frames in parks, umbrella, a horce thingy and many more. They would also play games like: Cowboys and Indians (You can still play that nowadays), they also played games based on: the space race and moon landings, football, family house and they would also go for a bike ride if they had one!

What sort of toys did they play with?

In the 1960s kids would play with many toys, some are even around today but some have been inproved from back then and are much better now! (Although our parents may not agree) Like Barbie for instance, and the Ken doll. They have been around for decades, and have gotten even more popular and have been inproved quite a bit. The toys they would play with are very rare to find nowdays but Barbie and Ken, are easy to find just walk into ASDA any day and take your pick!

What similarities and differences were there between 60s children and your lives today?]

Like back then, we still play with dolls and listen to music but we have much better music now! Young children today still have milk in school, and they also still go to school. But now we have more toys than then, way more toys. In fact toys are being made right this second! We also still play games from back then, like in netball and football. We also still play indians and cowboys, and there is also sports clubs you can go to which were similar to way back then.
