Meet your Division Representative

Hello,

My name is Melissa Wykell, and I currently serve as the Museum Education Division Representative to MAEA Council. It's an honor to hold this role, one that lets me work on behalf of museum educators from across our state and, just as importantly, learn alongside all of you: terrific art educators from every region, specialty, and learning environment.

I'm based in Kansas City, where I work as the Educator for Family Programs at the Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art. Through my work with MAEA, my goal is simple: to help museum educators share their expertise and inspiration with the wider field, while also connecting classroom art teachers with the resources and programs our museums have to offer. I truly believe we do our best work when we're learning from one another.

Aug. 2020 / NAEA Open Letter on Museum Educators

NAEA has published an open letter encouraging museums to refrain from disproportionately cutting educator positions in response to the financial fallout of the COVID-19 pandemic. You can read, download, and share the letter here.

Sep. 2020 / Show Me Art Magazine - Fall 2020 Issue Out Now

Check your mailboxes for the latest issue of Show Me Art, the MAEA magazine! Published twice a year, Show Me Art is your go-to resource for learning about what's new with art education in Missouri. Each issue includes a special museum education section listing upcoming exhibitions at institutions across the state. If you have an exhibition or program that you would like to see featured in the next issue of Show Me Art, please send info to museum@maea.net -- we'd love to celebrate your work and let art teachers know about all the terrific museum offerings they can incorporate into their teaching! The next issue of Show Me Art will include content covering March - Sep. 2021. Deadline for submitting upcoming exhibitions for Spring 2021 issue: JANUARY 1, 2021.

Oct. 2020 / MAEA Spring Conference Update

The Spring 2021 MAEA Conference (March 25-27, 2021) will offer both in-person and online attendance options for art educators. This is a great opportunity to learn from fellow educators and connect with art teachers from across Missouri. Watch for registration to open on December 1st!
