Video Conferencing

Getting started With Zoom

Zoom is a video conferencing software which allows both conferencing and screen sharing. Getting started with Zoom is easy. If someone has sent you a Zoom meeting invitation, simply click the link to get started. If you already have a Zoom meeting ID, you can join by clicking here: join.zoom.us. You can also set up calls and meetings for classroom use. As of April 5, 2020, Zoom is requiring a password to join a meeting for increased security. You'll want to distribute this password to the meeting participants through email, Google Classroom, or another secure method. For more info on getting started, check out: Zoom Quick Start Guide

Using Google Meet

Meet is easy to use and built into the GSuite. All you need to do is sign into your school email on your Chromebook, PC, or mobile device to get started. For some more information on how to get started, click here.

Google has also created a help page for Teachers that has step-by step directions for inviting students to Meets, how to integrate Meet with Google Classroom, and tips for managing students (as well as how to prevent them from rejoining Meets after you leave). Click here to learn more, and check back to learn about new features as they are rolled out by Google.

If you are having technical issues with Meet, click here for troubleshooting help, or scroll down for steps to enable the camera on your device.

Help with Microsoft Teams

Teams is a great way to stay in contact with your coworkers over the shutdown. Teams offers an intuitive user interface alongside great chat, calling, and video features. If you are interested in using Microsoft Teams, please contact the IT Department via help ticket first to ensure Teams is available in your district.

Camera Troubleshooting Tips

Enable your Camera and Microphone in Chrome

If you are having trouble getting your camera or audio to work in Chrome, you may need to manually enable your camera and microphone. These are often off by default to protect your privacy. Fortunately, they can be turned on in just a few clicks.

  • At the top left of your screen, you may see a box prompting you to allow the use of your camera and microphone. Click Allow when prompted.

  • If this option does not appear automatically, click the lock icon at the left of your URL bar (near the top left of the screen; circled in blue in picture at left).

  • From this menu, select Allow in the drop-down boxes next to Camera and Microphone.

  • You will need to refresh the page in order for the changes to take place.

Enable your Camera and Microphone in Meet

Another place to check in Meet is the camera setting within Meet itself.

When you go to start or join a meeting, you should see a screen like the one at right, which should show a preview screen. If your camera icon is red as shown, it is turned off. Click the icon to toggle it back to "on".

Make sure the correct camera is selected in Meet

Sometimes, Meet can select the wrong camera on your computer and make it look like there is no video.

On the same Meet preview window described above:

  • Click the three dots in the lower corner of the preview window, then click "Settings".

  • Click "Video" at the top of the box that appears, then make sure the correct camera is selected (if there are multiple).

Camera still not working?

  • Try restarting your computer.

  • Make sure your camera isn't being used by another application. If you have both Zoom and Meet open , or if you have another Meet session open in another tab in Chrome (or another video chat app), the camera will only be able to connect to one (even if you don't have another Zoom or Meet session running).

  • If your camera is still not working after these steps, please submit a technology request for assistance. Please include any error messages you see, which can help pinpoint the underlying cause of the issue.
