Just for fun!

Make your own ice cream!!!

Did you know you can make your own ice cream using just a few ingredients in about fifteen minutes? Well, it's true! Let's learn how to do it and the science behind why it works!

First, let's gather our ingredients and supplies:

Ingredients

1 cup half-and-half

2 Tbs granulated sugar

1/2 tsp vanilla

3 cups ice cubes

1/3 cup salt

1 peach, sliced

Supplies

2 ziploc sandwich bags

1 ziploc gallon bag

Second, let's start making ice cream!

Mix together the half-and half, sugar, and vanilla in a sandwich bag. Seal the bag tightly. Place the bag into another sandwich bag for extra protection.

In the gallon bag, mix together the salt and ice cubes.

Place the sandwich bag in the middle of the ice cube mixture. Seal the bag.

Shake the bag for 8-10 minutes.

Add more ice if needed.

When the ice cream has hardened, enjoy it with your sliced peach!

But wait! How does this make ice cream?

The salt lowers the melting point for the ice. This causes the ice to pull heat from the ice cream. As the ice pulls the heat and begins to melt, the ice cream freezes!

Pretty cool, right!
