English Overview
English I and II: I love teaching freshmen!
In this class, your student will learn how to analyze literature, write effective essays, and speak in front of groups confidently. Speaking of groups, we like projects, literature circles, and challenge based learning--all of those involve groups.
English IV: British Literature
In this course, we prepare for college English classes by researching with databases, writing an annotated bibliography and essays, reading literature from Old English to the present (Beowulf, Canterbury Tales, sonnets, Julius Caesar, and more)
We are a learning community. Once you come to MECHS, you are our family for life!
College English: It's a whirlwind tour of writing and literature in 8 week mini-mesters. Students receive 3 hours of college credit through our partner, AB-Tech, without having to leave our campus.
We start with ENG 111: Writing and Inquiry in the fall, which culminates in a career research paper (MLA). Then ENG 112: Writing and Research in the Disciplines features literary writing (MLA) as well as more practical research-based writing (APA).
In the spring we dive into modern American (ENG 232) with an emphasis on the classics of 3 time periods and Appalachian literature. Then it's modern British Literature (ENG 242) featuring Frankenstein.
