SCHOOLOGY:
The district is rolling out a new learning management system called Schoology. We will be learning how to access materials, discussions, conferences, calendars, and other materials through the Schoology site together during the first few weeks of school.

Google Classroom------
You will find questions to ponder and letters from me. After you read the letters, click submit if it is an assignment. This will let me know if you have opened the letters. By clicking submit, it tells me that you are participating.
Study Sync---- Grade Seven Unit 1
Study Sync Grade Seven Unit 1 is based around a series of short stories with a comparison of informational and fictional texts. This is a unit will be provided on-line at this time. I will continue adding materials from this unit in Study Sync throughout the quarter.
No Red Ink--- You will see some quick writes, passages and grammar practice materials.
Vocabulary--- You can personally work to increase your vocabulary during this time. You can go to quizlet to flip through the flashcards for the lessons or play some of the games. Links to the quizlet materials will be released throughout the quarter to students.
Independent Novel Projects-----------
The following books will be read together in grade seven: The Giver, The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, The Diary of a Young Girl: Anne Frank, The Outsiders, The Boy in the Striped Pajamas, Call of the Wild, The Jungle Book, and Night.
Every student will choose an appropriate book in August. Every student will be required to read a novel independently. You may not choose a novel you read last year as a whole class. The following books will be read together in grade seven: The Giver, The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, The Diary of a Young Girl: Anne Frank, The Outsiders, The Boy in the Striped Pajamas, Call of the Wild, and Night.
Guidelines for the independent book assignments will be provided throughout the quarter. The final project instructions will be provided in September.
Flipgrid--- This is a program that will allow you to create and view short videos from your classmates. It is a resource and several topics will be provided throughout the quarter.
Padlet--- This ia a place to post comments and thoughts about various topics. There will be several topics posted for you to add comments and images as we remember favorite books, memories, and restaurants from 2020.
Khan Academy----- I will be using the storytelling unit to support the work we will be doing to create our own longer piece of narrative writing. There are some great video resources in this unit. You will go through some segments of it at your own pace during independent work time. Other segments will require you to complete a task and skills lessons will be delivered by me along with the on-line Khan materials.
OPTIONAL ELECTIVES:
Study a foreign language independently. MTA does not currently offer a foreign language elective so I thought this was a good resource to share with you. There are other free sites to learn foreign languages that you can use on your phone or on a computer. I have tried Duolingo and Rosetta Stone in the past.
Learn how to code: https://hourofcode.com/us/learn This site has a series of free activities that could help some of you go beyond the hour of code challenges that you have completed in the past. Some of you have an advantage because you have studied this in your elective class.
