My Research Experience

In the Blackwell Lab, I have the chance to experience both organic chemistry and biochemistry with my two graduate student mentors. In the organic chemistry part of the lab, we work to synthesize complex molecules that can be used as agonists or antagonists in the quorum sensing of bacteria. On the biochemistry side of things, we work with bacteria to determine the effect of various autoinducers on quorum sensing within a strain of bacteria. Through my research experience I am not only acquiring knowledge in biology and chemistry separately, I am also discovering the immense interconnectivity and interdependence of these two fields.
