Anne of Green Gables
Spring 2021
Intermediate Theatre, Miss L
Miss L and the students had so much fun filming this classic story around DMS (even if we were masked) that we almost didn't miss the stage for a few weeks...almost.
L.M. Montgomery's timeless coming-of-age novel is brought to the stage with all the humor, heart, and optimism you remember. The play follows red-headed orphan Anne Shirley from her arrival in Avonlea as a hot-tempered 12-year old all the way through to her graduation as a top scholar of Queens College at age 15, bosom friends and bitter rivals alike caught in her whirlwind of imagination.
Middle School Musical
Spring 2021
Advanced Theatre, Ms. Davenport
Inspired by a certain Disney movie musical modern classic, Middle School Musical was collaboratively written by Ms. Davenport's Advanced Theatre class, with karaoke-style musical numbers from many eras. The show tells the story of two students from different worlds who share a love of singing that has them fighting for a chance to perform at their school's talent show -- despite parents, bullies, and their own insecurities getting in their way.
Middle School Musical was filmed at Discovery and streamed online.
Bella, Beau, and Beasts
Fall 2020
Advanced Theatre, Miss L
This full-length play presented via livestream was an original take on "Beauty and the Beast" dreamed up by the students and written by the teacher to offer a new way of looking at a familiar story.
When the Renard siblings end up imprisoned indefinitely in an enchanted castle run by a pair of beasts, the clock is already ticking for a curse to be broken by true love. But can Bella and Beau actually show the temperamental royals what it really means to care for others?
The Gift of the Magi
Fall 2020
Intermediate Theatre, Ms. Davenport
O. Henry's classic story of love and generosity was perfect for the holiday season. When a young couple rich in love and not much else set out to find the perfect Christmas gift for one another, they each sacrifice a precious belonging to raise the money...only to find the gift useless in the face of their partner's reciprocal attempts. The show was presented live on Zoom.
Discovering Shakespeare
Fall 2020
Intermediate Theatre, Miss L
This collection of short plays was entirely student-written, student-directed, and teacher-recorded in class while masked and/or distanced. Bard purists were almost certainly scandalized since plays featured twists on the time periods, characters, and even endings of our favorite Shakespeare plays including...
-A Midwinter Night's Dream, set in Victorian England
-Hamlet, as a murder mystery
-Macbeth, with the title character as the hero
-Romeo and Juliet, set in Revolutionary America
Oz

The Trial of the Wicked Witch
Fall 2019
Advanced Theatre, Mrs. Wilbanks
This hilarious musical sees Fairytale Land's Public Enemy #1 placed on trial for her long (LONG) list of crimes. With the Fairy Godmother presiding, Little Red Riding Hood as the prosecuting attorney, and the Three Little Pigs acting as baliffs against an ensemble of princesses and magical creatures called to the witness stand... this show was fun the whole way through and left its audience humming catchy songs for days afterwards.
A Christmas Carol
Fall 2019
Intermediate Theatre, Miss L
The story of Ebeneezer Scrooge and his Christmas Eve journey through time is a classic. This new adaptation written with input from the students highlights not just the joy, but also the tragedy and spookiness of the Charles Dickens novella. This secular holiday story about family, generosity, and all the other things in life that cannot be bought was a sell-out hit.
