Enter original photos that utilize composition, framing, and feel without over dependence upon software enhancement (filters, effects, etc.). Students take an original photo and then submits it for judging. An original photo is a photo that has not be changed in any way.
The following are the 8 genres of photographs that will be judged: Each genre will use the rubric above. This category has been hard to judge in the past because the photos are so different, so the genres will help with this. (Schools can enter 5 in every genre)

Portraits: a photo of a person especially one depicting only the face, or head and shoulders
Landscapes: photo that shows spaces in the world
Cityscapes: photo that shows the aspects of a city
Still life: a photo of a inanimate object or small group of objects
Action: a photo that shows someone or something in motion
Wildlife: a photo documenting some form of wildlife in its habitat
Plant life: a photo documenting a plant life in its natural habitat
Here are some tips that may help:
Follow the rule of thirds: think of your lens as thirds, make your shots more interesting by off-centering
Scenery makes the shot look more interesting
Move in close
Watch the light....mornings and late evenings are great
Use the flash outdoors
Take many shots
Try new things
