PSAT/NMSQT Testing
The Madison Metropolitan School District (MMSD) is encouraging all high school students to take the PSAT/NMSQT (Preliminary SAT) exam this fall. This exam is a great way for your student to prepare for the SAT and potentially earn scholarships.
The PSAT provides an up-to-date look at how your student might perform on the official SAT exam. This practice run can help your student pinpoint areas where they might need to spend more time studying for the actual exam. It can also help reduce testing anxiety by making the SAT feel more familiar.
For juniors, the PSAT also serves as the National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (NMSQT). High-scoring students can be entered into a national competition for prestigious scholarships.
All MMSD high school students in grades 9-12 are welcome to take the exam. Priority will be given to 11th-graders, followed by 10th-graders.
When: Tuesday, October 21, 2025, during school hours.
Where: Alliant Energy Center.
Transportation: MMSD will provide bus transportation to and from the testing site.
Cost: The registration fee is $45. Students who qualify for free or reduced lunch can register for free by using the code KLAFRW.
Registration is open from August 13 to September 24, 2025. There will be no late registration. To secure your student's spot, please register via this website: https://aptsusa.com/mmsd/psat/
Spots are prioritized in this order: juniors, sophomores, seniors, then freshmen.
The College Board, in partnership with Khan Academy, offers a variety of free resources to help your student prepare. These tools can help your student get familiar with the test format and content. To access these resources, visit the College Board’s PSAT/NMSQT informational page.
