Some students volunteered to play a collection of drum rhythms and sounds for you that we learned this year in music class. The rhythms include Beledi from north Africa & the Middle East, Cumbia from Columbia, and many other fun drum sounds.
Waka Waka (This Time For Africa)
Waka Waka was co-written by Shakira and John Hill. It was the official song of the 2010 FIFA World Cup that was held is South Africa and featured the South African Band Freshlyground. Much of the song is in English, but you will hear some words and phrases from Cameroon, a country in central Africa.
This song was originally written for the International Day of Peace, which falls on September 21, but as you'll soon see and hear, this song can be used all year. We hope this song makes you feel more connected to each other.
Our last song is from The Greatest Showman and is called THIS IS ME. It's a song that talks about being proud of your decisions and the person you are.
