4th Grade Concert Program
Yonder Come Day is an African-American spiritual that originated in the Georgia Sea Islands. Our version starts with a solo verse featuring these 4th Graders - Ahutumn, Keira, Micah and Anthony.
Here's a fun little warmup song students learned for the concert. It is a 'counter melody' song. In other words, there will be 2 melodies eventurally being sung at the same time.
HERE COMES THE SNOW was written by Teresa Jennings, a female composer from right here in Wisconsin, and it will feature some 4th graders rapping. (This is the 2nd year in a row Mr Moore has wanted a song about snow at our concert, and both years have been snow-free and 50+ degrees on concert day!!!)
FELIZ CUPLEAÑOS is a latin song that uses a traditional Cumbia rhythm.
This song will feature several 4th graders on other percussion instruments.
The title is in spanish and means happy birthday.
You're probably familier with this song, but our version will not just feature students playing recorder. We will also have some more 4th graders RAPPING in this song. Feel free to sing, pat & clap along!
Drum Circle - Groove Tune
Some students volunteered to play a collection of drum rhythms and sounds for you that we learned this year in music class. The rhythms include Beledi from north Africa & the Middle East, Cumbia from Columbia, and many other fun drum sounds.
RESPECT was written by Otis Redding and made popular by Aretha Franklin. Aretha Franklin was born in Memphis, Tennessee in 1942. By the time she was 21, she had already won 7 Grammy awards. Aretha Franklin was known as "The Queen of Soul", and in 1987, she became the first woman inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. Her version of RESPECT became an anthem for social change.
Originally written for International Peace Day in September, We All Need Peace is a song that focuses on everyone's need for love, hope and peace. With everything that's going on in the world, we thought this would be a great way to finish our concert.
