Welcome to the Higher Education Resource Site!
Our goal is to create a higher education resource hub focused on navigating college admissions and financial aid for students of color/underserved groups, in particular in response to changes in higher education including the "Better FAFSA" and the SCOTUS ruling on affirmative action. We hope that this site will serve as a helpful resource to students and families exploring their post-secondary options, and to educators supporting young adults in college readiness and success.
This resource was created by the AVID/TOPS partnership team. AVID/TOPS is a collaborative partnership between the Madison Metropolitan School District (MMSD) and the Boys & Girls Clubs of Dane County (BGCDC). AVID/TOPS aims to increase academic achievement, college preparation, and postsecondary educational access for students in the academic middle who are traditionally underrepresented in higher education.
What information can I find on this site?
We encourage students & practitioners to explore our menus at the top of the page to access all of the information available. However, we've highlighted below a few common areas you may be looking to get started.
Create your FSA ID NOW! Be ready for the #BetterFAFSA opening December 31st, 2023
What is an FSA ID? Your FSA ID is your username and password that allows you to access and electronically sign your FAFSA. The FSA ID is tied to your identity, so it can take a few days to be verified
Why do you need an FSA ID? Creating an FSA ID is the first step in completing the FAFSA process. Students will not be able to complete their FAFSA until they, and any parent(s)/stepparent(s) providing FAFSA information, have created their FSA ID.
Who should create an FSA ID? Anyone contributing information to your FAFSA form will need an FSA ID. This includes you, and likely your parent(s)/stepparent(s).
