Week of: May 20-May 24
Upcoming Lessons
Reader’s Workshop: We are working with our reading groups. Students are working independently throughout the workshop on independent reading, reading to others, writing about reading and Lexia.
Gardener In Residence - Farmer Katy is back at Crestwood. We will spend time in the Crestwood garden 1 Monday per month.
Part of our Social Emotional Learning curriculum, Second Step is complete. To supplement this work, we have started our mandatory Child Protection Unit (CPU). CPU is an additional unit of the Second Step program designed to build on the foundational skills students have learned throughout the year. This unit will teach students to recognize, report and refuse unsafe situations and touches.
Math Workshop: We have started our end of the year comprehensive growth assessment. This is a lengthy assessment comprised of both a written and interview portion. We will be working on this for the next couple of weeks.
Integrated Studies (Science, Social Studies, and Writing): Next week we will shift our focus to how things change over time. We will be discussing how people and places change with time. Crestwood started as “Highlands-Mendota Beach School” back in 1901. We will be talking about this and looking at pictures of our school from long ago. Discussions like this will lead us to our final project of creating a time capsule.
Homework: A May homework choice board and reading star sheet has been posted. If your child completes their homework, send it back to school and your child will receive a book from school (donated by Mr. Cushman in the LIbrary). You will see their name on the inside cover.
Snack Needs: Snack is always welcome! Thank you!
Weather: Temperatures vary greatly throughout the day. We require jackets to be worn at all times for temperatures below 55 degrees.
