There are several ways to be distinguished as College & Career Ready
(according to the California Department of Education)Smarter Balanced Summative Assessments: Score of Level 3 “Standard Met” or higher on both English language arts/literacy (ELA) and mathematics
Advanced Placement (AP) Exams: Score of 3 or higher on two AP exams
College Credit Courses (Dual Enrollment): Two semesters of college coursework with a grade of C- or better in academic/CTE subjects where college credit is awarded
State Seal of Biliteracy (SSB): SSB awarded and score of Level 3 or higher in ELA on the Smarter Balanced Summative Assessments
University of California (UC) and California State University (CSU) a-g requirements: Complete a-g course requirements with a grade of C- or better plus one of the Additional Criteria (see right)
Career Technical Education (CTE) Pathway: Pathway completion with a grade of C- or better in the capstone course plus one of the Additional Criteria (see right)
Completing a Career Pathway is a good way to become "College & Career Ready"
Career Pathways usually consist of an Introduction Course (in grade 9 or 10), one or more Concentrator Course (in grade 10 or 11), and a Capstone Course (in grade 11 or 12)
Some pathways take 3 years to complete and others take 4
Career Pathway Courses use "Elective" spots in your schedule, so you'll find your options in the "Electives" section below
ENHANCED Courses are slightly more challenging than their general course counterpart but develop the same skills and knowledge.
HONORS Courses develop additional skills and knowledge than their general course counterparts. They also raise your GPA (an "A" is worth 5 points instead of 4)
ADVANCED PLACEMENT (AP) Courses are aligned with college courses. You can earn College Credit if you pass an exam at the end of the year. They also raise your GPA, just like Honors courses. Passing 2 AP Exams designates you "College and Career Ready"
DUAL ENROLLMENT (DE) Courses are college courses, just as you would take on a college campus. Earning College Credit during High School helps you get ahead in college, saving you time and money. They also raise your GPA (like Honors and AP courses) and earn double the amount of high school credit (10 credits per semester course instead of 5). Passing 2 semesters of Dual Enrollment courses designates you "College and Career Ready"
You Must Choose 6 courses, including English, Math, Science, Physical Education, and 2 Electives
Keep notes and then complete the Form provided by your teacher so you're ready to meet with your High School counselor.
